Engine ID tag replacement

Can a replacement engine ID tag be ordered? I'm painting my engines and one is already very difficult to read.

What do most people do when re-painting?
Paint over old decal?
Paint around old decal?

I would just like a "factory new" look.

Thanks,

Richard

Re: Engine ID tag replacement

Are you talking about the model/serial # tag? Or the engine decals?

If it is a model/serial # tag I would mask it to preserve it. The decals are available on the interenet and many people have replaced them.

Do a search for painting outboards and you will find alot of info.

Well I VERY carefully removed the model# tag and painted the midsection. On the final coat of paint while it was tacky I placed the tag in the paint and so far it looks great. I hope to mount it on the bracket today.
