Re: engine info force 85
The MAIN thing you need to know is that you need to mix one pint of TCW3 outboard oil into each six gallons of gas. This gives a 48 to 1 ratio which is easier to figure and close enough to the factory recommended 50 to 1 gas to oil ratio.
Did the previous owner tell you proper starting procedure? They seem to be rather lax about that.
You should also investigate the pitch of the current prop to see if the boat is correctly propped for the use to which you will put it. If you have a tachometer, the full throttle RPM should be between 5,000 and 5500 RPM or the numbers on the model number plate. This plate is usually found under the hood on the starboard side of the engine, below the area where the fuel line and control cables enter the lower pan. The model number is like an auto VIN and is used to define the engine and to order parts. If you do not have an extra prop, unless you boat on very small bodies of water, buy a spare.
When you either repair the existing lower unit or buy another, replace the water pump impeller and also change the lower unit gear oil as preventive maintenance. If you intend to run the boat with the current lower unit, then change the impeller and gear oil now. Only other item that might need replacing is the fuel pump diaphragm.
If you intend to do any maintenance or repair work yourself, buy a Clymers manual. It's only 20-30 bucks.
Most likely you will not, but if you do have any problems, this is the place to get info.
