Engine info plz

New to boating. I have a 1974 thunderbird formula 31-180. Are they decent boats? Also i need to know exact engine as for when i need parts and such also HP?? Only number i see is 848675 Its a inline 6.

Brad,<br /><br />The engine number you have posted is incomplete, it should have 7 digits. By the year (if it's the original engine) and the fact it's IL6, if it's a mercruiser, then it'll be a "165". GM 250 cu in, 165hp. Good solid engine. Had one in my currnet boat for 8 years.<br /><br />Chris........

wHERE SHOULD HE NUMBER BE? I got it right above the starter.

On a small plate riveted to the engine, just above the starter motor. Re-check it, there should be 7 digits. Also some engines still have the decal on the rocker cover with all the details on them. Sometimes the serial number will be on that too.

If it's the merc 165 parts are easy to come by. They're great engines and easy to work on as well!

check for plate under spark arrestor sometimes they put a red tag there with the number on it.

The red tag under the spark arrestor is the carb ID number, nothing to do with engine number.

mine is on the valve cover. try looking there

Its a aftermarket valve cover.
