Engine Info

I just bought a little bass boat with a small Evinrude (7.5 hp) motor on it. The model number is E8RCIA. This doesn't seem to quite follow the rules for model numbers so I'm a bit confused. The motor says it is 7.5 hp but the model number implies it is 8 hp. I am also guessing that the "CI" means it was built in '81 and that there is no "shaft length" designation. Is this correct? Where can one get an operators manual and/or a repair manual for this engine?

Thanks for anyone's help. I am a rank amateur at this and just hope it will run well enough to let me putt around in Mission Bay in San Diego.

true it is a 1981 7.5hp manuals here: http://www.outboardbooks.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=models.main&year=1981&ID=69299

shaft length, measure where it sits on the transom to the flat plate just above the prop. 15 inches is short shaft, 20 is long shaft. yours is short shaft, the E8RLCIC 1981 would be the long shaft.

Yep, it's a 7.5hp. 7 point 5 wouldn't work well in a simple model number scheme, so they rounded up. They did the same with the 4.5 and 9.9, too...
