Engine install question

On Saturday I am going to put the engine back into my 1988 Larson DC175 Citation. It is an OMC 4.3.

There are two plywood boards between the boat mounts and engine mounts. Are these suppose to be here? I know I am gonna have to align the engine anyways. Just don't know if I should put these back on or try aligning it without.

Re: Engine install question

They are in there to get the engine properly aligned. with the gimbal bearing/transom shield.

HERE is a thread on engine alignment. It's for a Mercruiser, but the procedures and reason for it is exactly the same as OMC Cobra's.

If it was aligned when it came out, don't remove them.

I had to do the same thing when I installed mine and add a single piece of hardwood on only one side to get everything aligned.

Those side-engine mount blocks are not always at the perfect (or even the same) height.
