Engine just suddenly dies......

I have a 2001 Seaswirl bowrider with a 4.3 V6 Volvo and an SX outdrive. I have been experiencing a problem recently whereby the engine, only occasionally, will all of a sudden "die" when the boat is getting up to WOT. When I try to restart the engine it turns over but does not fire. It is only after I have let the engine "rest" for a minute or two that it will fire up again as if there was never any problem. During a full day of boating this may occur only once or twice! Does anyone out there have any possible idea of what could be going on here? Thanks.

Welcome, How does it run immediately when it restarts? I'm trying to determine if it is fuel, or spark?

when it restarts it runs as if there never was any problem. She doesn't cough or splutter and has no issue getting up to WOT. Thanks

That is the exact time that you need to check for spark.

Thanks guys, I will test for spark and will see if that is the problem. The engine shows no signs of overheating - is it possible that there is a vapor lock?
