Has any one tried the MK55EM Minnkota engine mounted troll motor, does it effect the main motor preformance.

seeing that the mount to the top of the AV plate, once on plane they shouldn't effect the performance that much. also, looks like the stearn would have to sit pretty low inorder to keep them from cavitating. looking at the overall cost, i think thats why, most are still using auxilary 'kickers'. it's funny, they rate their motors a ft. lbs. pressure. wonder how they stack up to hp.

Thanks for the reply, yea they arn't cheap but the theory looks good for just manoeuvreing around trees while drifting casting, also as you have said it would have to be well under the water to be effective.

Gents,

Any update on this since 2006?

I'm thinking of buying one for my 16.5 foot Larson bowrider. I'm mounting it onto a 1992 100HP Mercury Outboard. My transom mount 33 pound Minkota just doesn't have enough oomph to keep it straight in the wind=> especially as it's mounted off to one side => off a Ladder bracket.
