Much less splines than on the alpha 1.

Ayuh,..... If that's the case, you've got an antique MC-1 from before 1974,.......

Also found that the shifter shoe turns the wrong direction on the mc1

Since when? rotating the lower spline or top brass shoe fully to the right is fwd

Dunno that's why I'm so confused. It wont rotate counter clockwise for reverse it rotates clockwise for reverse and fwd is straight on like it should be. I found another mc1 that is off an 81 boat. The lower unit splines on it would be the correct way to mate with the alpha 1 right? Cant find an alpha under 1k and cant do that right now.

If you are turning the brass shoe fully clockwise for Fwd and full counterclockwise for reverse this is correct, Failure to turn the brass shoe in this direction means the lower splined shaft was not oriented correctly when assembling the drive
It was actually in reverse fully CCW and the brass upper shoe was installed in a straight line. So you cant turn it into reverse ccw because your already in reverse.

When I took the mc1 lower apart I didnt even get it all the way apart before I saw that the splines were way wrong. The shifter shoe has corroded itself onto the shaft of the lower and doesnt want to come apart no matter how much penetrating oil I throw it at. Doesnt matter anyway it wont mate with the upper. Looks like I found another one that's newer that hopefully will work
