Re: engine oil

We need a bit more information.
Where do you live? What is the average temperature during your boating season?
Why is it hard to get SAE 30 oil? That is the most common grade of oil in the world.
If you want to run year around - and the temps range from sub-zero to hot, then you should go with 20-50W or 10-40W.
Cheers!!!!!!!!!!!!!

straight 30 would be the best because you would have wicked oil pressure even after the engine is warmed up. but if you can't get it use 20/50. 5/30 is meant for new cars with really tight engine tollerences and the thinner oil gives them optimum gas milage

I agree...5W30 is too thin. If you use 5W30 you will notice it tends to get consumed and you need to keep topping it off. 15W50 (diesel engine oil) would be my choice.
