Engine Oil???

I'm sure this is opened to debate, but I would like some thoughts.>>>At my local Boat shop, they sell Quicksilver Premium, and Quicksilver Premium Plus 2 Cycle oil. Its only $4 differance for a 2.5 gal jug. The counter man said one is synthetic oil (I assume the Plus).<br />I have a "fresh" 1978 Johnson 115>>>Should I go for the plus if cost differance doesn't matter to me??? Is their a better oil for my usage??? <br />I'm assuming again, that the Merc. Quicksilver is a high quality 2 Cycle Oil, and will be fine in my OMC engine. <br />Thanks for any thoughts and help.

As I understand it either oil would be fine, but the synthetic may cause less carbonising especially if the motor is run for prolonged periods at low throttle, am I right anyone?<br />This is of interest to me too as, with the very low local speed limit on my river, my motor will be run quite a lot at low throttle.

If you do a search on this topic, there is enough info to make your head spin! Bottom line is synthetics will produce less smoke and cause less(if any) carbon in two strokes. At only $4.00 diff, Ì'd give it a try.

In my humble opinion, oil selection goes this way...<br />1. Follow the engine mfgs specs exactly.<br />2. Use the engine mfgs brand. <br />3. Use an NMMA TCW certified oil of any brand.

Quicksilver Premium Plus is NOT a synthetic oil. Premium is a "standard" oil and Premium Plus has more additives for the requirements of high hp motors.<br /><br />For a 26 year old Johnson 115, any TC-W3 rated oil is worlds better than was available back then.

I always used Lubramatic TCW3 in my 1990 90 evinrude...had no problems

I tryed the Lubramatic, and it seemed to smoke A LOT!!! & I thought it had more residue after running, dripping from the exhust then I ever remember.
