Hey guys I'm back!!

After a bunch of setbacks this summer I finally got the boat fixed and working..hooray!!

However! I noticed most recently that if I am cruising along and have the control lever in the halfway point from full throttle..I noticed the engine keeps gaing speed..meaning if i was trying to go slower than top speed, it seems to keep kreeping up???..similarly, as i throttle down it will start throttling down to what seems slower than the handle should represent..hope i am making sense here..

Anyway, just wondering if this is cable related?..or do outboards not have a medium speed per say?...I had my control replaced early this summer..so its new but the cables are not.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

It could very well be a throttle cable issue. Motor vibration can cause the throttle to "creep". Does your control box have a cable tension adjuster? If so, tighten it a little bit and give that a try.

Re: Engine picks up speed without advancing throttle

Thanks for the quiclk reply. I'm not sure to be completely honest. The boat is a center console, so i have the binacle type single arm control on the console.

I dont know where to look to see if there is an adjustment of the sort that will prevent the creep.

I think I still have the paperwork on it..ill look that up to see.

I'll post back when I get home.

Thanks again
