with a timing light. youll see it go from the initial setting at idle to advanced state. doesnt matter how slow the throttle is opened, the secondaries are goin to open with the amount of vacum needed.

Re: Engine problems

are the secondaries sticky? make sure they open nice and easy with your fingers. your just not getting enough rpm to make the vacum needed, unless thier froze from corrosion, but its a new carb right?

Re: Engine problems

what do you mean? they wont open with your fingers? with engine off... hold primaries wide open and try to open the secondaries. another thing that is possible is its runnin to lean. first you need to see if its advancing the timing like it should be. soooo, GO DO IT !!!

Re: Engine problems

It is advancing but, I'm not sure if it is advancing right. I was going to spray WD-40 in the distributor to try to lubricate the insides..
what do you think.
Also I F**ked up, when i set up to time the engine I could not find the ear muffs so I put the outdrive in a bucket and I don't think it covered the whole intake. I didn't realize it until I noticed the engine temp. was about 200+ so I shut it down and know it won't suck up water. I have a sea water pump and I took it apart and it doesn't look bad the impellers are all there. could this still be the problem?

Re: Engine problems

well thanks to all for the great info. I was able to get it running right. but of course there always has to be more now the pickup tube is broken 'm not sure if that is the right name for it. it looks like a thermastat housing and has a hose connected to it. I think i can just unscrew it any idea?
and thanks again..
