Hi all, have a 1977 Silverline Nantucket 307 & Volvo 280 OD. Rubuilding an automotive 350 to drop in and convert to marine. Other than the external components, is a low lift cam all I need? What about the heads? This is for fresh water only.
Nothing special about the heads, and the cam specs for a truck engine mirror the specs for a marine engine. Put the brass freeze plugs in, and use a Fel Pro gasket set with composite head gaskets and you are good to go!
Without knowing what engine/year you have, it would be a mistake to just drop in a 'truck' cam. Older flat tappet GM engines trucks used to have much less power than their auto counterpart.
Check out some cam MFG's and see what they offer in marine cams. Cams aren't expensive items. Might as well get one designed for the application.
