Engine recommended RPM

Hi, Does anyone know what the recommended crusing RPM should be on 270 Crusaders,<br />in a 31' 1987 Silverton. I normallr run 3000 to 3200 is this too much or too little. I have 20x18 props on 1&1/4" Shafts running out of V-Drives.

You're right there.. 2800-3200 would likely net you the best MPG/GPH and engine life expectancy... <br />Long as your engines will run up to WOT (wide open throttle, approximately 4200-4500rpm) and the engines are'nt lugging, 3000-3200's fine..

Most folks cruise around that RPM I know. I tend to be around 3400 just because my boats likes that number but 30 to 32 is a good place to start. If you find it luggin on the low end then adjust to what the boat wants. The numbers are only a start but they don't apply to every boat. It all depends on the boats balance.

Your boat is about the same weight and size as mine.I have Mercruisers 260 MIE twin 350's.Same drives.My props are smaller then yours,running 18x17.<br />My rpm's at cruise are 3100 which is 24 mph and at that point the 4 barrels are just opening up.I burn about 25 gals per hour with 6 or 7 people on board with full fishing gear for offshore and 300lbs of ice,200 gals of gas,40 gals of water.
