Engine removal

I have a 1986 Bayliner Capri with a 3.0l OMC I/O. The starter bolts broke off into the block and I have to remove the threads so that I can remount the starter with new bolts. THe problem is that the starter mounts are under the engine so I have to remove the engine to perform this work. I have removed the 4 front mount bolts and 2 rear mount nuts and am ready to lift the engine out. My question is how do I disconnect the engine from the outdrive so that I can life the motor out. I have performed similar things to pwc's and I have always had to remove the pump first to so that I can remove the drive shaft, then remove the engine. Do I need to remove the outdrive to get to the shaft? Just need a little guidance.

THanks

Re: Engine removal

I would un-bolt the sterndrive unit from the boat, then the engine will pull right out. Reason being you will need to re-align the engine after installation, so you will need to remove the stern drive anyways.
Otherwise you just need to slide the engine forward unit the shaft comes out...
