I have a bad 305 volvo, and Im looking to replace it with a 350. I use this boat for trolling. Im looking for some input on this, good or bad. If I should stick with the 305 i will, im just looking for a little more power due to the boat being under powered with a full crew. Im leaning towards a Jasper motor.

350 all the way, there is no valid argument for keeping a 305.

You will need an engine of the same vintage (2 piece main seal or 1 piece)

And as for Jasper...........I personally had a horrid experience with them and several friends also were not happy at all with their engines.

I honestly would drop a GM Goodwrench TRUCK engine in it, change the core plugs.

I've had friends that had successful swap with the goodwrench swap. They were mechanics, though and changed out the head gasket and freeze plugs. You may be able to get a better 'tow package/power' truck engine(not sure) but for $1300, the Goodwrench swap worked.

I've also heard bad reports on Jasper/warranties.

Go for the 350, you will be pleased. If you have some cash, you can pick up a 300+HP fuel injected package for about $5,500.00, otherwise there are a slough of 260hp carb engines everywhere that will help you get the cre on a plane.

How do I go about getting some info on these motors. Is there a website, or a phone #. I want to have this done in the Saginaw bay area ( michigan). Any of you guys know of a place in michigan that sell these motors?

I recently put one together. I found a block on Cl, had it cleaned, honed and cam bearings/core plugs installed. I bought an engine kit off Northern Autoparts online, put it all together with a set of heads I had. I was into it about $500.00

If you are in Mich, I'd give Michigan Motor a call, check out their site at http://www.michiganmotorz.com/ they are located in Troy Mich. and have a good reputation.

I talked to them just last week since I may have to replace the motor in the SeaRay. They were very helpfull. Not sure if I'm going with a 305 for $1900 or a stroked 350(383) for $2700. The shipping costs may put MI Motors out of the running, though.
