Engine Reset breaker tripping

I just had an amp installed in my boat. Everything was going great. Had just put on Smart Tabs and was cruising with a big ol smile from the improvements. About 3 hours into the day steadily running and kids tubing, the engine just shuts off and everything dies. MPH gauge has pegged over to 60 and all other gauges are not working, turn the key and nothing. Throw the cover open and check the cables and everything looks ok. Push the engine reset and it clicks and so I try starting it again and it starts right up. Give a worried sigh of relief and start heading back to the ramp. 5 minutes later same thing. Once again reset the breaker and limped home without further incident.
My boat has never done this before and I am assuming that somehow the amp installation has caused this. I can see he has run the power and ground wires from the amp directly to the battery and there is an installed line fuse in the amp power line which was fine. I am feeling it is some kind of short somewhere but not sure where to look or how to test it. What electronically would make the engine reset switch trip? Any ideas or previous occurrences like this?

Disconnect the amp and see what happens.
Sounds like they used a wire from the engine harness and its causing the pop.

That amp and radio should be on a dedicated breaker and should be isolate-able from the rest of the boat.I like disconnects :) :D
