Engine revs but won't go

I have a 2002 115HP outboard. Today while I was out cruising everything was perfect and then I went to a sandbar and when I left after a couple of hours I would try to accelerate and the engine would act as if it was in neutral. It would rev but it wouldn't go anywhere. The reverse worked perfectly. What could it be?? I pray that it isn't anything major.

Thank you in advance to those who answer this thread.

check your propellor hub, sounds like its spun.thrust at idle an no thrust above idle is typically a spun hub.

Re: Engine revs but won't go

Is this a hard fix? Do I just take the propeller hub off and look?

Would this problem still allow reverse to work? Remember this only happens in forward not in reverse. Can it be done by someone handy but that has never done it before?

Thank you so much for your info.

most require you to Pull prop and take to a prop shop to repair, but some are set up where you can do it.
Mark the prop and hub run it and check to see if the marks are not lined up anymore
