I'm converting my boat to a console steer. How long/how much extra cable length shoudld I have in my control cables. Measured down the side and to the motor it's 86" (7.1') so I'm rounding up to 8'. How much extra should I add in to compensate for slack for the bends and such that I will need?

The throttle and shift cables should have a nice loop in front of the motor when the motor is straight. This will allow for smooth operation even when the motor is hard over in either direction and enough slack for tilting.

Without seeing the boat I'd guess youre looking at 10' cables.

I found the info in the West Marine catalog they recommend add 4 foot and round up to the nearest. So i'm going with 12ft cables. And it's a jon boat.
