i searched and had no luck. my boat has a mercruiser engine designated mie 330, which in the manual says is an inboard motor. also says all mercruiser in/out run counter rotation, inboards can be either way. on the original air cleaner it has the counter rotation firing order, now the engine has been upgraded to a 1992 330hp gm marine engine. i am new at inboard motors so please have patience.. i dont understand how the counter rotation works. i see the firing order reversed but what about starter? does it spin oppisite direction also? i also dont understand the difference between in/out and inboard motors. i understand automotive engines just fine and have built several. this has me kinda stumped. help would be greatly appriciated. thanks...kc

Re: engine rotation question/inboard

What type of transmission or drive is on the boat?
standard firing order 1,8,4,3,6,5,7,2 .Is this what you have on the aircleaner?
Most single inboards and inboard/outboard motors are standard rotation.
The starter rotation depends on aft entry or block mounted. So if you have a standard motor with aft entry you need a reverse rotation starter ,same motor with a block mounted starter you need a standard rotation starter.
Reverse rotation motor with a aft entry uses a standard starter, block mounted uses a reverse rotation starter.

the firing order on the cover is12756348, upon further investigation it also say rh rotation. starter mounts to the block. standard rotation would be Lh? trans is a volvo penta 280
