Engine runs, but does not turn the prop

Hey guys, I have a 20 hp Suzuki EFI 2021 now I took it out in high seas and now I have a noise which kind of sounds like it’s coming from the powerhead not sure where though and now the prop doesn’t spin when in gear, I took the prop off, started the engine and the prop shaft isn’t spinning, but if I put it in gear while the engine is off and spin, the prop. I can hear the engine, turning over, did I strip my driveshaft or did I mess up my transmission? Please help need help fast live on my boat. Use the dinghy basically like a car.

Is there any Oil in the Gearcase?

pull the lower unit, inspect the vertical drive shaft, inspect the shift shaft, check for gear oil

Forget it I found it snapped driveshaft snapped at the impeller

Thank you brother that’s exactly what it was snapped at the impeller. I took it out in high seas and that’s what the ocean does man has almost

With a broken part like that, I should probably go to the whole bottom leg or do you think I’ll be all right change the oil put a new shaft in and put it all back together

No do you mean gear oil no gear oil doesn’t grill no grease. This is what happened. It snapped the driveshaft in the middle of the driveshaft chrome driveshaft.

lol yeah there is oil in the gear case or was I took it apart that was all ocean and the forces of the ocean

Should visit a dealer and claim warranty.----Driveshafts normally do not break like that !!

Being a 2021, see your dealer

Otherwise get the factory service manual and swap the shaft

while you are at it look to see if there is some evidence on the lower unit of a big shark showed up and tried to bite the prop off while it was running in those high seas
