ENGINE RUNS GOOD ON EAR MUFFS BUT NOT WHEN IN WATER

MOTOR RUNS GOOD ON HOSE BUT NOT IN WATER , 1983 JOHNSON 70HP HAVE REBUILT CARBS AND REPLACED POWER PACK MODULE . HAVE NOTICED THAT THE PLASTIC SURROUNDING THE MIDDLE COIL IS MELTING. I AM GOING TO RUN IT ON HOSE TONIGHT AND UNPLUG THAT CYLINDER AND SEE IF IT MAKES A DIFFERANCE, ALSO I HAVE CHECKED THE FUEL PUMP DIAFRAM FOR ANY TEARS OR PIN HOLES AND FOUND NONE . ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

you cannot set the carb speed setting on muffs, you have to set it high on muffs and fine tune in the water. there is no back pressure on the exhaust. go ahead an replace the coil or it's going to cause you more problems. email me and i send you Joe Reeves, setting the carbs.

thanks for your help with this problem . i sent you an e-mail a few minutes ago . all help is greatly appreciated. i meant to also let you know that compression is very good on all cylinders, new primer and hose , still have old tanks but they are in great shape, no rust inside. thanks for your help
