Engine runs rough and smokes a little

What colour smoke?

Blue = burning oil (rings or valve guides)
Black is rich fuel
White is steam... (head gasket)

It leaves a black soot around the boat when I pull out then wax it is what I noticed

Check the engine compressions and timing. If they're good, time for a carb strip and clean.

And oh, check the flame arrestor isn't full of dirt.

Ok. Flame arrestor just cleaned. Buddy of mine said to spray the sea foam stuff into carb. Recommend or not?
