Trying to get some opinions on products that help flush out salt in the motor.

The ones I've seen are Salt Away, Salt Terminator and I think there was one called Salt Eliminator. Anyone use these products and what do you prefer? There seems to be a good diference in price for these products.

on my trailerable boats I have always flushed with salt away after every use it seems to keep from having any problems with build up.

Thanks. I also have a connector to flush out my brakes. Would that be ok to use there too?

I use it to hose down and rinse the entire boat, flush motors, and brakes.

Opinions vary. For whatever it is worth, mine is that there is a sucker born every minute (PT Barnum said that). WATER is the solvent for salt. Just flush it with plain ol' water. Water won't remove corrosion though---and neither will Salt-Away.

On my outboard motors I flush with water with a squirt of dish soap in the hose.

Over 30+ years of doing this, every motor opened up for rebuild/maintenance has never shown any indication of a salt deposit.

Those products might be good when a neglected motor needs extra cleaning when salt deposites are already established in the block.

Thanks guys. I was under an impression that these products put a coating to minimize the effect of salt/corrosion buildup on the inside of the motor.

I bought the salt terminator for an older 60HP merc. I will use it as a wash down on all the externals as well as inside the engine.

Erosion of the water passages is going to do your motor in long before corrosion does.
