My engine came off power last year at WOT and would not restart,so we went ashore, cleaned the plugs and problem fixed or so I thought.Could a binding impeller cause a lot of damage such as a bad rod bearing and crank ?After last season I had the boat winterized by the marine shop. This year my impeller needed replacement. There apparently is a knocking sound but the engine runs fine through the entire power band and can only be heard at idle while in the water and not with muffs due to the louder sound of the engine.

Re: Engine Shut Down

If the impeller was bad, you could have overheated. If it did shutdown due to heat last year then maybe you damaged something. Or it could be something totally unrelated between last years shutdown, and the apperent knock. I'd be looking for the knock. Could be a bearing on the crank, upper or lower.
