Re: Engine smoke

I saw mercury blend and the mechanic did not recommend me going to synthetic oil. He said that I would not get the proper lub due to synth being real thin.

Re: Engine smoke

If your engine is smoking more than you think it should, put a new fuel diaphram in it. Many times they develop small pin holes and it runs fine but causes more smoke due to fuel by-pass at the pump.

Re: Engine smoke

John, I guess you have done this and it has worked. I am looking at the parts list and I don't see one on the fuel side. Where is it located? Thanks

Re: Engine smoke

Are you talking about replacing the diaphram? I am at work and don't have my books here but here is the quick and dirty.

Remove the main fuel line and strainer by unscrewing the screw on the black strainer housing.
Remove the nuts on the CDI and Coil mounting plate and move it out of the way.
Remove the six screws holding the fuel pump housing onto the fuel pump base.
Replace the diaphram and the diaphram gasket.
Re-assemble in reverse order.

Thanks John, I know now what part you are talking about. I will inspect it tonight.
