Engine Stall in Neutral

Bought a 2004 Glaston MX with a 3.0L Volvo Penta engine. Has some nasty outboard issues but the mechanic fixed those.

Took it for the first water test today. Boat ran well but would stall whenever I put in neutral after warming up. If I revved the engine I would be Ok but anytime I would go to put in drive it would stall...unless I could get it in gear and give it a little gas before it stalled.

Ran it for about an hour at cruising speed but had same issue when I put it back in neutral.

I don't know how long the boat sat. I put premium gas in the engine but no stabilizer of seafoam.

Any ideas what the issue might be? I am not very mecinaically inclined but I assume it is some type of carb issue?

Appreciate any input

I would say if it sat for a long time, you may have to get a carb gasket kit and clean out the carb.

What's the engine idle rpm? If you can get it to idle at all before stalling. I'd be inclined to adjust the idle speed screw up and make sure the throttle plates aren't just closing too much in neutral.

Not sur ehow long it sat....would it run rough if it is dirty carb?

yes, it likely wont idle right. the idle circuits are at the bottom of the bowl.

Should I adjust a 1/2 turn to start?

No,... You'd turn it slightly, As it's idlin', warm motor, preferably in the water in gear, but on the trailer would suffice,...

1/2 turn is Along ways,....
