just pulled the boat out of winter storage and tried to start the engine but it seems to run for about 5-10 seconds and then dies, the problem i believe is the engine is starving for gas, my question is there usually a fuel filter in line or is it in the tank? i left the tank at 1/2 before winter and added some stabil but i believe that gas is gummed up somewere, any solutions. the boat is a 93 glastron runabout with a volvo 2.3 motor

Re: engine stalling

If you added Stabil to the fuel systen then it is unlikely that you have a fuel quality problem. Does your boat have an inboard fuel tank or are you running portables ? Sounds to me like something as simple as a clogged fuel line. Check your connections. Good luck.

Re: engine stalling

after you put stablizer in it did you run it for so the stablizer went all through the system if not that might have created the problem

start engine, run till it dies, remove flame arrester, look down primaries while pumping throttle. should be strong squirts of gas. if not pull fuel line at intake side fuel pump and blow into line. should hear bubbles in tank. if not work your way back untill you do. pull line at carb and put in container to catch fuel and crank engine to check fuel flow to carb. if good to here check carb filter.

Good suggestions here. The one thing I would add is to use a portable gas tank to see if it runs on that instead of the main tank. It will help determine whether the issue is at the tank or up stream. Good luck.

Your probably won't hear bubbles when trying to blow through the fuel line. Most tanks I've seen have a check valve at the tank that only allows the gas to flow one way. You can suck gas out of the tank but you can't blow back into the tank.

Re: engine stalling

thanks for all the help im going to try a gas can to run the engine, also i tried blowing back into the tank but could not, but i believe there is a check valve that wont let you do that, is there any additives that you can add to the tank to loosen up the varnish that actually work

i know a lot of mechanics that swear by Seafoam. You get it at Napa, carquest, etc.
