engine stalls when i throttle down to idle when engine is warm

i have wellcraft with a 260 mercruiser engine. the engine runs well and the boat planes off without issue. When i throttle down after running for while, the engine stalls and appears to flood the carb. i have to wait 5 minutes or so then crank it over several times before it will start. once it starts it runs well again. any suggestions? carb adjustment? throttle cable.

I'd guess it needs rebuildin'...

the carb is a sierra 2 barrel. it is two years old. put 50hrs on it last season and about 15hrs so far this season.

i've read several posts with similar problems, i've seen a few with "replace ignition coil" the problem occurs after the engine runs for a while (gets warm) should i investigate or am i wasting my time and just have the carb rebuilt?

Ayuh,... Check the contents of the fuel filter for crud, 'n water...

Run it, when it Quits, Check the sparkplugs for Spark...
