Engine stalls while shifting

Hi
Have Merc 5.7 EFI Sn. 0L049324 and Bravo III sn.0L169079 both 1998 I think at least the boat is a 1998. 110 hours on the meter.

The problem is that when I shift it usally stalls (more often when it's cold).

- Is this a shiftcable problem?



And sometimes when it stalls it takes a couple of start tries before it starts again (starts and just stalls directly).

- Have read somewhere about waiting for 10sec before a trying to start it up again is this correct. When running out of the dock a lot could happen during 10sec!!!

Nope,.....

If it was an Alpha it would be,.. But Bravos are another animal......
And,...
Unfortunately, I don't have any answers for you.... The EFI puts it out of My reach...
But,...
I'm sure somebody will be along with some diagnostic tips.....

The one thing it isn't, is the shift cable. You can also eliminate he drive as a problem since it does work sometimes. I have seen drives almost locked up that will stall an engine, but they NEVER get better for a while.
I would check the basics, get a full tuneup, fuel filter changes if they haven't been done this year. If the problem still exists, it could be a sensor failure, control valve failure, or any number of things. Running diagnostics on a computer or scan tool would be the best way of finding the problem, along with following the OEM service manual diagnostics procedures.

I changed the fuel filter 2 months ago(maybe I should a have a look what it have filtered) and have filled it up twice this season (short one here in Sweden).
Guess I have to take it to a service shop to run the diagnostic.

It runs just fine otherwise. No problem with engine stalling comming back to the dock it's just when the engine is cold or when it have been turned off for example when filling it up.

Question
Is it possible to buy this diagnostic tool and if so how expensive is it?

I take it that "it just blows" is meant to be a compliment? I guess difficult cultures have different sayings. Over on this side of the pond if something "blows" it is not usually a good thing.

It was an compliment*2. I guess it was an Swenglish translation of how we use the word here in Sweden.
