Looking for a 140 mercruiser to repower my Isalnder, I have the 120 now,, and its not in running condition after sitting for 7 years,, I have a chance to get for couple hundred dollars a 140 with outdrive from 1986.. will this fit in my 72 islander with the same key hole in the transom,, and I will prob need new controls if this unit dosent come with?

I believe it should be a straight swap. Possibly may need two extra holes for the transom hardware. Pretty sure the control will work OK.

50 bucks can't be too bad a wallet bite if the block isn't cracked from freezing.

I thought the same,, cant even fill your gas tank for 50 bucks in the truck,,and it comes with everything...so its a no brainer,, only downside would be if it were cracked,, but the guy says it was winterized and drained... so will see....picking it up tomorrow...

If the two extra holes are needed, they're on top of the keyhole so easy to tell.

If the block is cracked, plenty of parts to sell.

Ayuh,..... Good deal,.... The keyhole is pretty much the same,.... It might need alittle "Tunin' " for the final fit, but it won't need much grindin', if any,...

There will be 2, or possibly 4 bolt holes that'll need to be redrilled slightly wider from the keyhole,....
You'll see what I mean, when ya get 'em apart, side by side,....

'n buy a new gasket for the transom assembly,...

stripped the 140 down its real rough,, off to the machine shop, found a gouge mark behind the waterpump where it score itself into the cylander housing not sure why, but if the block is ok, im replacing with new parts anyways...stripped the donor boat of everything, not a bad haul for 50 bucks
