I am thinking about swapping engines on my boat. It has a 1996 112 evinrude and i have access to a 1989 140 evinrude in great shape. My question is, will everything as far as electrical cables, throttle cables, steering cables, and what not plug in to that 140? Is there any big difference in the two?

Re: Engine swap from 112 to 140 evinrude

you need to look at the plug on the ob's to make sure. if they both have the old style red plugs it should work.
if the 112 has the newer plug there is a kit that allows you to connect the old style to newer style.
the rest should be the same.
-
but weight will also change, the 120/140 weigh between 365 to 378 depending on shaft length & gear case.
nada shows the 112 @ 306 to 311, a good 60lb difference.
just trying to help

The 140 is a looper and will have a ton more torque. You'll love it!

Good luck!
