I have a 1988 Four Winns Liberator that I am repowering. I am replacing the OMC 350 with one of the 350 "Power Pack Specials" you can find everywhere. It's a 325 hp. 350 Vortec roller with a Holley. My question is, has anyone done this type of swap, I need some advice with mounting the shift cable bracket to the Vortec manifold ( I know I will need to fab something, but I was hoping some of you could give me an idea).
Also this new engine has a Mallory elec. distributor, the old one was a points type. According to my Seloc book the wiring diagram shows the ESA mod. ties only into the neg. side of the coil. So I should be able to do the same with this set up (?)
Any help would be great!

Thanks guys

Scott Rogers

You'll undoubtedly want to get that distributor recurved. Or better yet get a marine rated distributor. If the one you have is out of an automobile it will not meet USCG specs and will have a curve that is not suitable for a marine application. Also the automotive camshaft could result in rotten performance.

I'm facing the same issue with my ford/edelbrock intake conversion. My throttle cable bracket was built to bolt to an OEM intake. You'll most likely have to fabricate or see if something like this would work.

Is that "Power Pack Special" a marine setup? If not, there is more than just the distributor that needs to be changed to make a marine engine. Including, cam, head gaskets, core plugs, carburator, fuel pump, starter, and alternator.
Most have to do with spark and fuel leak problems in an enclosed engine compartment of a boat. If it is marine, then it's no problem.
That shift bracket does not have to be on the engine. I have seen them mounted on the transom and the work just fine. The engine was just an easy place to mount them from the factory.
