Re: Engine Swap Question

Here is an idea. What if I take the volvo flywheel that is on the 350 to a machine shop and have it centered, re-drilled and balanced to accept the mercruiser coupler.

Could this work? :D
Flywheels are relatively cheap. Even if it would work, you would have more $ in the machine shop labor charges than the cost of a new flywheel.

Re: Engine Swap Question

I think all you will need is a new coupler, I didn't realize earlier that you have a COMPLETE engine setup, I don't see any reason that you can't just use the flywheel that's on the 350. What does the Mercuiser coupler you have look like? If it has a small circular base you wont be able to get it to work with the older flywheel, if it's one of those big triangular ones (and I'm not a Mercruiser expert so I don't know what years those are used) then it might just bolt to the 350 flywheel.

Re: Engine Swap Question

the flywheel that is on the 350 matches the motor, leave it on there, the merc triangular coupler bolts to the flywheel the same as a pressure plate in a vehicle, remove the volvo flex plate or coupler and bolt it on

Re: Engine Swap Question

UPDATE

I've been away for a while, but because of all the help you guys gave me I needed to give you an update.

I'm not in the water yet, but hopefully I will be soon. The only thing I had to buy in order to complete the motor swap was the fly wheel. The 350 fly wheel was a small diameter, it was for a ten inch clutch plate. I got one for a 1977 camaro for a 11 1/4 inch cluch plate. Everything else transfer right over, I mean everything, starter, coupler, alt, all brackets, etc.

The motor is in and I'm dealing with a flooding carb and no ignition spark. I hot wire the ignition and was able to start it for a few seconds before I saw the carb flooding out. I started another thread about the carb, maybe I should of continued it here...maybe not since it doesn't relate to the engine swap.

Well...once I get the carb working corrected, I'll start with the ignition and hopefully no more problems. :D

THANKS ALL FOR YOUR HELP
