What should the engine block or exhaust water tempature be on a 1973 85hp Evinrude. I do not have the alarm hooked up. The engine is on a stand and I have a laser temp reader. I just changed the water pump and was wanting to know if it is doing what It is suppose to be doing. Thanks

the impellar pumps water, at idle you should get droplets or mist, out of the exhaust relief ports on the back of the leg. this does not mean the tstats are opening and cooling the block. temp should read 140-160.

I was getting a mist or droplets out at the releif port on the back of the leg. If those two holes at the top of the leg are what you are calling the releif ports? When I test ran the engine after the pump change out. I did not notice that happening. I watched the engine for about 5-7 mins. and noticed the engine was getting warmer and was getting temps about 150-175. I noticed water coming out around the propeller area and a little hole on the back of the engine. Also some water coming from between the lower unit and the rest of the leg. The water that was coming from front of the engine out of the little hole was warm. Does this all sound normal? Thanks
