Engine Timing

Hey All,

I have a question regarding timing of the engine. I recently completed the break-in of my motor with the timing retarted 2* (28* cranking at full throttle if I remember).

Would there be any benefit to advancing the motor to the full factory setting, or leaving it at the retarted position?

I am not sure if the power gain will be worth re-adjusting everything, and I am not sure if leaving it retarted will make the motor last any longer. What are the benefits of either side?

The motor is a 1994-1995 force 90hp on a 17' ProLine CC

Let me know what you guys think

There's some confusion with setting static timing. Some manuals say set it to 32BTDC for static and for dynamic set is at 30 BTDC. Other manuals do it the otherway, 30 BTDC static and 32BTDC dynamic. Personally, having it set at 28 BTDC would not show a whole of difference if you decided to set it to 30 BTDC. I say keep it the way it is and start noting your WOT speed RPM and over land (GPS) and then make changes later to 30 BTDC and make comparison.
