Engine to Stern Mating problems

Hey ladies and Gents. I have a 79 Bayliner Victoria (27 Ft.) I just rebuilt the engine recently now I am trying to put it back in, the only problems is that I cant get the Flywheel to attach to the pinion gear on the stern drive.<br /><br />Am I missing something? Maybe a trick or two on mating the engine to the Bell housing?<br /><br />Any input/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Its a Chevy 350 with a Volvo Sterndrive.

Sounds to me like you still have the bellhousing in the boat, and not on the engine. You need to remove the drive upper gear box, remove the 6 bolts holding the sealing ring in. Remove the bellhousing and install it on the engine. Then put the engine in the boat.
