These pistons looked scored, don't they? Maybe I need to get the pistons and cylinders serviced?

Thanks, Mark. I got the bolts out. One came out with some vice grips. The other had to be drilled and then tapped. I took your advice and went ahead and ran the tap through all the other holes. It all went back together very easy.

I started it back up on the muffs and it is still running at the same temperature. The water out of the tell tale is pretty warm at idle. After taking all that crap out of the water jacket, I thought it would be a lot cooler.

As for the water pump washer and seal, they wouldn't fit. The new kit must have a redesigned collar for the water tube. It's a snug fit for the pipe - there is no way to fit the washer and rubber seal down into the hole.

I'll take it out to the lake this weekend and see if it gets better at higher RPMs.

If you had a thermostat you would have seen it when you did this.

Let's back the truck up.

Are you on muffs when you say water is hot/warm? What about ambient hose water temp? How warm is warm? Sure you are getting adequate water to the water pump? My experience with the snug fit is that is what you have when you don't have a separate seal. Actually i never had one with a seal, all snug (interference) fit.

Hey Guys-

Just wanted to give an update. We drove the boat around this weekend for about 5 gallons worth. It ran great! While the water coming out of the tell tale was pretty warm, it wasn't burning hot. I did get an overheat alarm at one point when I was running close to WOT, but I'm not too worried. We had been idling for a long time and did a hole shot out of nowhere. The water pump doesn't seem to pump a lot at idle speeds, but cruising at 4250 rpm was no problem. My daughter caught a 2 lb bass, so it was a good day.

Thank you all so much for your help. I could not have gotten this boat up and running without all of your suggestions.
