I just replaced the voltage regulator in my Johnson 225 1989 and now when I turn the key to the off position, the engine does not stop running. Any ideas? Did I reverse some wires? Thanks for the reply and help!

When you turn the switch "off", you ground the black and yellow wire that comes from the powerpack.

c/6

Hooty

Thnks Hooty for the quick response! The black/yellow wire was loose on the switch itself so I tightend it and same problem occured. Has the switch gone bad? What would be your(or anyone else's) idea be? Thanks.

Hooty, one more thing. There are two sets of black/yellow wires that conect in the power pack with a boot on each. Would reversing these cause this problem? Thanks.

Reversing the wires shouldn't matter. The black wire(s) on the switch are grounds. With the engine running, jump the black and yellow wire to the black. Be careful though because the blk/yel wire is packin' about 300vac and it'll make ya talk more sh*t then an Iranian radio. If that kills it, the problem is in the switch. If it doesn't, the blk/yel wire is loose somewhere before the switch.

c/6

Hooty

A common problem with the same symptoms, is the small pins and sockets in the rubber connections at the pack come loose or break off internally when they were taken apart. In later years, they beefed up the Amphenol connectors on the black/yellow wires. A broken pin, socket, or a bad crimp will form an open circuit and the magneto ignition cannot short out and stop the motor.

interesting seahorse! Are these the two boot connections that sit on top of the inside of the power pack? Thanks.
