Re: Engine will not lower/raise

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard.....

You're going to have to be alittle Wordier than that around here.....
You've got your background Info covered pretty well,....
But,...
Your Question is Lacking,.... What Button?.?.?.?.

Mercruisers Don't move the Engine,.... Only the Drive.....;)

If you don't have the factory service manual,....
You can get it Here,.... The Drive manual is Here.....

Read through it,+ find the section on the Trim System....
Then follow the wiring diagram to see where you aren't getting the electrical power where you Should be....

You've probably got some corroded connections somewhere.....

On page five, you will note the various chapters or sections listed on the left. You can click on those for additional info - and as Bondo said, you can right click and save to your drive.

Re: Engine will not lower/raise

Oh ok thanks! It works here at my home computer, it didn't work at my work computer.

The button I am talking about is the one on this lever:

(this is an image of a similar boat I found on google)

it says "ROW UP/ROW DOWN" I used to just flip it up or down and the engine would come up or down. But now, it just makes the noise as if it is trying, but nothing happens.

Re: Engine will not lower/raise

I havent yet but I will.

it says says "20 amp fuse blown.
2. Determine cause for blown fuse and correct
before replacing fuse
NOTE: If fuse blows while trimming ?Out/Up? or raising
drive unit, problem may be due to grounded trim limit
switch leads. To check for grounded condition, disconnect
trim limit switch leads at bullet connector ?14,?
?15,? ?16,? and ?17? (in wiring diagram). If drive unit can
now be raised (using ?Trailer? switch), trim limit switch
or leads are grounded."

My brother was messing with the fuses on the dashboard trying to find one to replace the ignition one when it was broken. The blower won't work so I assume that he took the fuse out of the blower and maybe messed up the other ones. Which one of the fuses might be in control of the drive unit? Theres "Blower, Navigation Lights, Accessory, Bulge Pump"

They all make some sort of noise (or the radio turns on for accessory) so I assume they all work... except for the Blower. it does nothing when I turn it on. It used to.

If it sounds lie it's trying the pump should be the only thing making any noise unless the outdrive is jumping up and down, if the pump is making noise it's probably getting at least some electric. My grandfater's mercruiser did not take electric from the ignition switch as I remember it was a junction on the motor almost directly from the battery...It's been a long time since I looked in there though.:D

Ayuh,....

You said it's making Noise,... That's why I asked if there's any Oil in it,..??...

The Electrical side of it is obviously Working.....

Re: Engine will not lower/raise

So the electrical side was fine(sort-of, it was all corroded) and . but there was oil all underneath the battery. So there was a leak in the oil you mentioned.

Not to mention the fiberglass underneath the battery is all messed up now, too.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v369/El-Diablo-of-dt/Boat Engine/BoatRowProblems021.jpg

so the motor that moves the Row Up and Down.. that is called the "Tilt/Trim Motor - Mercruiser" right? I think its the part #891736T I took this to get tested at College auto department and it seems to TRY to work, but it doesn't work really. it's all gunked up/corroded inside. I think im going to order a new one.

-(less important) Few other questions:
1.)What should I put underneath the battery to fix that part where the fiberglass is all broken off and messed up exposing the wood?

2.) Does anyone know the part number to my starter? I think I need a new starter too because mine takes too much power to start. it needs 2 batteries to start.

3.) When I finally get this boat all fixed up... I am thinking about reupholstering the boat. The seats & the floor.

My floor:

Would this upholstery work for the floor?

Double sided-seats:

The seat upholstery I want to use is:

Thanks for all the help guys I have no idea what i'm doing, I've never worked on a boat or even a car before and i'm almost good to go soon.

If you have problems with your engine and drive systems, this is the forum to post in, your best bet would be to post your floor and upholstery questions over in the iboats Boat Restoration forum at http://forums.iboats.com/forumdisplay.php?f=22

Re: Engine will not lower/raise

Ok the college repaired the old motor for me, when I had already bought a new one on ebay. I ended up winning it on an ebay auction for only $80!

But the old one is still all messed up so im going to use it till it breaks then just replace it with the new one I got.

Then I bled the Hydrolic fluid out and all of the old fluid was really bad and even had water in it. It was also milky white. I bled all the fluid out, raised the engine up with a carJack, raised and lowered the engine while putting new fluid in, until EVERYTHING came out. Then filled it with new fluid and closed and put everything back. Now it raises and lowers just fine.

So the issue was: Leaking Hydrolic Oil, Bad Hydrolic oil, and a broken "Mercruiser Trim/Tilt Pump 891736T"

but everything is good now.

THANKS for everyones help!

ESPECIALLY BOND-O !!! those manuals and wiring diamgrams helped me soo much!
