hey i got a bayliner 2450 ciera with 5.7 v8 volvo penta engine and i cannot start it up on a neutral. it will only start if i put the throttle nearly at full and then if i reduce it back down it turns off. any ideas what i could do to fix it ?

This is bit un relevant to the engine but im not sure where to post it.There is a part at the back of engine room that is responsible for lifting up the leg up and down. and from the lifting motor there is some kind of metal bar and from the join there is water leaking into the engine room. do you know by any chance what the part is so i could replace ? sorry for bad explanation so im attaching few picturesIMG_0049.jpgIMG_0051.jpgIMG_0053.jpg Image - TinyPic - Free Image Hosting, Photo Sharing & Video Hosting (couldnt upload this picture) . it coming from the area where the white paste is.

Thanks in Advance

Does your bayliner have a year? Drive model? Engine model?

As far as starting goes, since the boat is new to you, I would suggest a full tunup, including a compression test. Check the fuel filter for water etc. Make sure the choke works on the carb, and the accelerator pump works.

Carbed engines don't typically start and idle at idle, fuel injection like your car yes, but not a carb.

I would also suggest you separate your tilt lift problem into a separate thread. With two subjects going in the same thread things get missed and unanswered.
