I guess it is time to knock off all the platitudes and get down to brass tacks. How much is it going to cost me to keep my home? Now that Alaska has taken the lead from Calif in dictating how the rest of the country is to be run.
That bimbo (am I allowed to say that?) from Alaska is a real piece of work.

I am not a rick snowbirder. I travel up and down the ICW to work and keep myself and dog comfortable. I do my own boat work. keep my craft clean, and neat. And I know I am not alone. Some of the most caring and giving people live aboard and travel the coast, asking for nothing more than a friendly hello.

I have visited the bimbo's (can I say that) website and she takes great pride in posing with a dead salmon. I felt really sorry for the poor fish.

I guess I will be banned for speaking my mind, sorry

Re: EPA Permits for Rec boats

Well, I won't comment on the people who are keeping the exemption from going through, but I will state that if I have to pay around $800 for a permit, I will be pulling my boat early this year, either that or taking a chance hoping they will pull someone else over. I'm figuring the ticket would be a lot less than the permit ( did I say that out loud?) Probably pulling my boat early and missing prime perch season here.

The cost of the permits (one for each state you might visit,) is minor compaired to the fine. The Clean Water Act was put into place to control commerical ships coming into US waters and de-balasting, introducing non-native species into our waters. The Zebra Mussel is the most used example. And according to the EPA documents released, the fines regardless whether it is a 12 foot Jon Boat or 150,000 ton tanker are the same. between $27,000.00 and $32,500.00 PER DAY The good news, the Federal Permit is Free and good for five years. The bad news is each state is required to come up with their own plan and permitting system.

The three states I have contacted so far to see about obtaining a permit so I will not have to play hide and seek with the water cops, do not have any plans in place or even proposed. They all assumed that congress would pass the bill (S.2766) and it would be a done deal. Even Alaska does not have a clue where to start. I would have personally thought the the Junior Senater from that state would have given someone a heads up. Wrong......she is just protecting the interest of commerical fishing boats that for the most part are not ever addressed by the CWA as they are mostly over the 79 foot limit established as the max size by the EPA. And they are already covered by other statutes.

I have a feeling that boats are going to start sell real cheap, very soon.
