I've seen some discussion involving coating the inside of an outboard gas tank. My '48 Scottie has a self contained gas tank. Is it a good idea to coat it and what product would you recommend? Thanks.

I suspect there's a reason metal gas tanks don't routinely come coated with anything ... ;)

You can coat it with epoxy, however, it must be perfectly clean, with no oil residue from the past 60+ years. You must also make arrangments no to clog the fuel pickup.

Normally gas cans with gas/oil mix, rot from the outside in. Is that what you are finding?

Not sure if the tank is rusted - looks pretty clean inside. I have some leakage from somewhere. Not a quick leak - might be the fitting on the bottom of the tank - gasket, connection, etc. Probably check that out first. Thanks!!
