From what I rember reading fiberglass mat does not take epoxy well , what is the name of the stuff that does and what is a good thickness to work with for installing the stringers? Thanks !

Re: epoxy "glass" question

Mat made for polyester resin has a binder that epoxy will not dissolve and keeps the mat from saturating easily or saturating at all. I tested poly mat with epoxy and the results were bad enough to make me a believer not to do it again. Mat constructed for use with epoxy is stitched together (but the stitiches are difficult to see)and easy to saturate. Ask your epoxy supplier and he will know what to order. A typical layup for an 18' outboard boat stringer could be alternating layers of... (1)1.5oz mat,(1)18 or 24oz woven roven,(1)1.5oz mat, (1)18 or 24oz woven roven. That's a good rule of thumb with standard fabrics.
