I am redoing the stringers and sole of my boat and I am anticipating needing about 5 gallons of epoxy. I have used West Systems but in this quantity the US Composites is considerably less expensive. Can anyone recommend the US Composites Epoxy?

Re: Epoxy Recomendations?

yes I can recommend us composits. their prices are the best i've found online and shipping is reasonable. also, be sure to check their accessories page- the mix stix and throw away measuring containers are inexpensive and ensure accurate resin measurements (real important).

additionaly, they carry sewn glass matting. this matt is specificaly for epoxy use. the traditional glass matt (not sewn) has "binders" that hold the glass together. these binders compromise the bond with epoxy, but, desolve when used with poly.
anyone using epoxy be sure to use sewn matt and glass that is intended for epoxy.

I have phoned usc for tech advice as well as ordering products-very helpfull folks. best to phone early in the day for tech. info-

Re: Epoxy Recomendations?

I can vouch for the US Comp epoxy mat and it wets out easily.

The last epoxy resin I purchased (earlier this year) was from Florida Fiberglass in Rockledge, Florida. I don't have the address handy but cost was 3 gals for $100 and 7 gals for $200. It works fine and I've used 10 gals to date on a 17' full blown stringer, floor and transom job. It may go another gal or 2...I'm going heavy. They don't carry the epoxy mat but do have all the other stuff you need.
