I need to build my longitudinal stringers and my transom by gluing two layers of ply together to get the proper thickness. The transom will be two sheets of ply glued together then glassed into the fiberglass hull. My main center stringer is 12 feet long. I will need to scarf and laminate two layers of ply to make the thickness of the stringers and to get full length. I was thinking it would be better to bond the layers together before cutting the shapes out of the ply. Should I use epoxy to bond the ply together before cutting them to shape? The only place where epoxy may be exposed to Polyester as at the thin bond line between the layers of wood.

It'll work fine, many people just glue them with construction adhesive.

PL premium was what I used to glue my transom pieces together. I used dimensional lumber for my stringer, but that was years ago before people here started talking about ply as being the way to go.

Construction adhesive should be fine. And you don't have to do a fancy scarf joint, just butt end them and sandwich the ends between another layer of ply.

Ayuh,...

10 years ago, I used Resorcinol(sp) Glue to do my transom,...

That was before I knew about Liquid Nails,.....:D
