Re: Erude SPL owners..

Those Tracker packages are always offered severely underpowered so they can try to sell you a bigger engine.

Had a 48SPL on my Boston Whaler Striper 15. It was a fine engine. The 48SPL are offered without PT&T or oil injection. Otherwise they are identical to the 50s.

You want at least 70% of the rated max HP to get decent performance.

the newer spl are now available with power tilt. the main difference between the 48 spl and the 50hp, is the 48 is premix motor, you have to mix your oil and gas. other than that, they are identical. personally i prefer the spl. 28,48,88,112.

I have a 1988 48 special and it has power tilt and trim...although it is a weird set up..it is off to the side of the motor and not underneath and between the brackets like most TNT units...

I just got the motor on trade with my 2001 50 hp

and have not run it yet....

so i dont know how it runs, bob

Re: Erude SPL owners..

the 28 SPL in some years was actually a 30 or 35 hp powerhead without a through-hub exhaust. Agree - you're going to be underpowered.
