Is is air cooled, water cooled or a mixture of the two? If it's a mixture - air and water- it will have a small 'pipe' on the lower unit where when you run it on a boat the forward motion / prop motion will force the water up and help with the cooling (the lower bearing I believe). If it's air cooled make sure to use oil for an air cooled motor; not the regular TCW outboard oil. I have an older Eska (and an Elgin and a Clinton) and I use a mixture of about 16 to 1. Better to use too much oil and foul a plug than it is to cook the motor.

If it's air cooled (has cooling fins) there should be a tag on the motor itself with a Tecumseh model number. They put the same motor on lots of outdoor equipment so you can still get parts. Basically a weedwhacker/snowblower motor. They called for 24:1 back in the day but newer oil should be okay at 50:1 - your call.

The tecumseh engine number appears to be 642-17b

Western Models

I bet it doesn't have a water pump, and has points. It's a Tecumseh series AV520 engine, and it will still want it's water to the bottom end for the crank seals. Is that durned thang Canadian?

Thats a very nice trolling type motor, I would use 24-32:1 depending on air temp....I wouldn't let it set around and idle in the barrel

If it's air cooled make sure to use oil for an air cooled motor

Oh my ,;) you poor be fuzzeled wal mart shopper...geeessh!! air/water cooled ??? :).....J/E XD25 or better LOL
my craftman chainsaw has run its whole life on XD25 and so has every thing else I ever owned air cooled....Craftmans synthetic air cooled 2 cycle is actually penzoil synthetic marine, if your leaning toward scary thoughts of oil damage from marine grade oil you can get the penzoil extended life version which has the ash you think you want, the main thing with the old Tecumshe is keeping the rings lose, bearings rolling and heat disapated...the Tecumseh has a cast in place iron liner not a nikosil plated alloy type cylinder

Is that durned thang Canadian?

You'all got me confused now. I've been using the walmart 2-cycle oil in everything. Clinton, Gale, Nissan, Firestone, Mac. So, am I ok? Do I need something special for any of these motors?
Sorry if I jacked this thread.
I mean walmart outboard 2-cycle oil.

your fine, only when you get up in the higher HP H/O motors will there be a need to change
