Hi all: just new to the forums here & would like to post a question re an Eska 3h.p. I have just repaired this engine-(it required a new thread insert for the spark plug). I had a quick look around about the Eska motors & saw somewhere that it is an air cooled engine with a water cooled shaft ect. So does it have a water pump somewhere?? And my plan was to use it as a shallow water duck hunting engine. I would mount it high on the transom with just the lower unit in the water to get into shallow areas. Does anyone see any problems doing this??

It does have a water pump impeller. If you drop the lower unit, the first thing the long vertical drive shaft goes into is the water pump impeller housing. It'll probably be retained by 2 bolts. When you take it off, and remove the impeller, you'll see a drive shaft seal below it. You ought to replace that seal, too. Also, there will be a round key that locks the impeller to the drive shaft - get a new one of those, too. That motor should be fine scooting you around in the shallows.

it will make lots of noise and some real loss on pushing power the closer the prop is to the surface, other than that I would like to mount a AV817 to a long shaft mud motor frame and shaft and winder up and see what 7.5 wild 2 cycle tecumseh hp @ 5650 rpm will do

Oh, I'm sorry the AV817 was the last production run for the Tecumseh built Eska 7.5hp, 8.17 cu. inches of screaming 2 cycle hell...you will see them listed in the 640-xx engine codes, I really don't have much use for anthing less the a AV817....most bang for the buck and they used a almost full bottom side water jacket unlike the earlier AV750s and 600 and AV 520...don't get me wrong I'm not bashing the others I just like to twist all the power I can out of the little fellers, and theres not much to twist.

best regards,
