Eska 5.5hp flywheel bolt

I kinda did the thing your not supposed to do when you take a flywheel off. Anyhow i damaged a thread on the shaft and screwed my flywheel bolt all up. MY QUESTION IS, WITHOUT BUYING A NEW MANUAL, DOES ANYONE KNOW THE SIZE AND THREAD COUNT ON THE FLYWHEEL NUT? And Possibly where to buy it. Its an old Ted williams 5.5 eska serial//model number prefix 217-xxxxxx yes it is a tecumseh. any information wil be helpful.

Thread pitch gauge and a ruler will tell you for sure. Post the results and we'll all know!

It also occasionally helps if you wait more than two hours.

i shouldnt have messed it up to start with. As many flywheels i have pulled i should have known better.. Now in a hurry to get one. Can i measure it with the same tool i use to set my gap on my contact points? its measured by thousandths right

It probably is a 7/16-20. Could be a 1/2-20, but I sort of doubt it. Heck, you can measure fractions with an ordinary ruler.

I'm on the way out to the shop anyway, so I'll check it with a pitch gauge. And you did know better, but, hey, wattyagonnado? I've certainly taken my share of faux shortcuts that blew up in my face. I have 7.5 and 9.9 cranks, and I'm thinkin' the 7.5 will be the same as your 5.

Yeppah - 7/16" 20 threads/inch. F_R has a kickass tool for a flywheel removal tool; Essentially, you get a 7/16-20THD coupler nut, and a 7/16-20 bolt. Run the nut down onto the crank threads till you have a long engaged threaded length, then screw your bolt into the left over threads in the nut above the crank, and snug it up. Put a pry bar under the flywheel, put some lift on it, then spank that bolt head with a hammer. Is that a great, or what? All the hammer shock goes straight to the crank, and the crank threads get off scot free. There's some Tecumseh tool or other for it, but who cares. Giterdoneson.

I will confess I'm notorisis for fouling up crank threads just like you have done, take whats left of you crank nut and go to the hardware store or lawn mower shop and yes get one with a deeper thread count.....hell get 2 use the one to chace the threads on he crank and the other will be your new crank nut...problem solved, and for the record I always change them out anway....anybody who would reuse a thin tecumseh single crank nut is asking to have there *** left drifting.

hey I won a 9.9 on ebay last night for 35$, now thats 35 more than I like to give for them but I though for sure I would get out bid, the best part is I only have to drive a few mile down to Kentucky lake to pick it up....and to add to my joy it has a dead stator....lucky me
